FAQs
All our most commonly asked queries, answered by our expert team. Get the details you need to know about our services, credentials, and ways of working here.
Where are meetings held?
Our meetings take place at our offices in Sale, Cheshire – a welcoming, comfortable environment where you can relax and talk openly. In our view, there’s real value in meeting face to face, and we’ve created a space that reflects that.
Do you have parking?
Yes, parking is available at our offices, so getting to us is straightforward. If you’re travelling by public transport or need any help with directions, just get in touch and we’ll help you out.
Do I have to pay for an initial meeting?
Not at all. Your initial meeting with us is completely free of charge and comes with no obligation whatsoever. It’s simply a chance for us to get to know each other, understand what you’re looking to achieve, and explore whether we’re the right fit for you.
What do I need to bring to an initial meeting?
There’s no need to prepare extensively. But it helps to bring along any recent annual statements you have for pensions, savings accounts, ISAs, or investments, as well as details of any protection policies such as critical illness cover, mortgage protection, or life insurance. You’ll also need to bring proof of identity, such as a valid driving licence or passport. Don’t worry if you can’t find everything – whatever you can bring gives us a good place to start.
How long should I allow for an initial meeting?
Set aside around an hour. That gives us enough time to have a proper, unhurried conversation about your circumstances and what you’re hoping to achieve without feeling rushed. In our experience, the best financial planning conversations rarely happen in a hurry.
Do I have to sign up to your services at an initial meeting?
Absolutely not. There’s no pressure to commit to anything at your first meeting. Our goal is simply to listen, understand your situation, and give you a clear sense of how we could help. Any next steps are entirely your decision, taken in your own time.
How can I book an initial meeting?
You can book an initial meeting by getting in touch with us directly – either by calling our office, sending us an email, or using the contact form. Whether you’d prefer to speak to an adviser or a member of our support team first, we’re here and happy to help.
Are you independent?
Yes, we’re fully independent. That means we’re not tied to any particular providers, products, or financial institutions. Every recommendation we make is based purely on what we believe to be right for you – nothing else.
Are you regulated?
Yes. Suttons Independent Financial Advisors Ltd is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA). This means we’re held to the highest professional and ethical standards, and you have the full protection of the UK’s financial regulatory framework when you work with us.
Can you advise on final salary/defined benefit pension transfers?
This is a specialist area that requires specific regulatory permissions, which we don’t hold directly. But we work closely with a small number of trusted, fully qualified partners who do. If this is something you need, we’ll make sure you’re in the right hands – and we’ll stay involved throughout to make sure everything joins up seamlessly with the rest of your financial plan.
What happens if my financial planner is away?
You’ll never be left without support. Suttons is a team, and if your usual adviser is unavailable for any reason, a colleague who knows your situation will be on hand to help. You’ll always have someone familiar, friendly, and knowledgeable to turn to.
How do you charge for your services?
Our charging structure is straightforward and transparent. For initial advice, we typically charge a fixed fee based on the complexity of the work involved – this is agreed with you upfront, so there are no surprises. For ongoing advice and service, we charge a percentage of the assets we manage on your behalf. Your adviser will always explain exactly what you’ll pay, and what you’ll receive in return, before you commit to anything.
