Richard at work

Richard began his career in 2007 at The Bank of New York Mellon, working in fund accounting. Over eight years, he progressed through a variety of roles spanning investment management, project delivery, and relationship management.

During his final three years at The Bank of New York Mellon, Richard attended evening classes alongside full-time work and achieved a first-class BA Honours degree in Financial Services Planning and Management.

In 2015, Richard transitioned into the financial planning profession, joining Equilibrium Financial Planning. He spent seven years as a client manager (paraplanner) before stepping into the role of associate financial planner, in which he provided advice to some of the firm’s largest and most complex clients.

Richard recently joined Suttons as a Chartered and independent financial planner.

He specialises in holistic financial planning, offering guidance across all areas, from investment management and retirement planning to tax optimisation, Inheritance Tax mitigation, and intergenerational planning.

Richard has a diverse client base and works closely with individuals, families, and business owners. He has also run educational sessions for clients’ children to help them build financial confidence and budgeting skills.

The proudest moment of my career was:

"There are so many moments where I have been proud, whether it has been seeing grandparents help their grandchildren onto the property ladder, or individuals retiring earlier than they could have imagined.

One of the moments I’m most proud of was helping unlock honest, open conversations between a parent and their adult children around money. Through careful planning and sensitive guidance, we created a space where the parent felt confident enough to gift funds to their children, enabling them to reduce hours in a job they didn’t enjoy but felt trapped in due to mortgage commitments, allowing them to spend more time with their own young family.

It was a great and powerful reminder that financial planning isn’t just about wealth - it’s about wellbeing, relationships, and creating freedom. Seeing the positive life change that came from those conversations was incredibly rewarding."

The three things I love most about my job are:

"Making a meaningful difference in people’s lives: This aligns with my own values, and it is my purpose. Helping clients gain clarity, confidence, and peace of mind about their financial future is incredibly rewarding. Whether it’s guiding someone into retirement, helping a family plan for generational wealth, or simply simplifying complex decisions, I love knowing that my work has a real and lasting impact.

Building trusted relationships: Financial planning is as much about people as it is about numbers. I genuinely enjoy getting to know my clients, their stories, values, and aspirations, and becoming a long-term partner in their journey (which extends beyond finance).

Continuous learning and professional growth: The sector is always evolving, and I thrive on staying ahead, whether that’s through qualifications or exploring new strategies. I love that my role challenges me and allows me to keep growing, both personally and professionally.

“A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.""

The types of people I most enjoy working with are:

"Anyone.

I believe every life is unique, and so every financial plan should be too.

I love working with anyone I can genuinely help, whether they’re just starting out, planning for retirement, or navigating complex wealth. Adding value and seeing the positive impact of my advice is deeply fulfilling."

Richard at home

These days, Richard’s weekends are mostly devoted to family time with his fiancée Alanna and their two little ones, Sebastian and Arina. They definitely keep him on his toes!

Richard tries to stay active by playing football regularly and squeezing in a run or gym session when possible.

He is also a big fan of live music and loves discovering new bands.
